Thomas Freiler
Freiler is interested in systems of reference which tend to be largely overlooked, such as the greyscale and color calibrations used to correlate the original image quality with the quality of the reproduction. His works bring these calibrations to the forefront – a digitially rendered optical wedge pays homage to the tint-dyed gelatine photometers of the 19th century. He has devised his own Colortests to examine how certain colour information is conveyed by way of photographic paper or negatives.
